Help! My Skin Turned Green!...Choosing Correct Bathroom Colors Sets the Mood

Updated: Jul 11, 2023

Bold and beautiful bathrooms make a statement. But, they also might change your mood or

skin color. That’s because emotions, as well as skin, reflect the color of our surroundings.

Additionally, bathrooms should energize us in the morning and calm us before bed. Those opposing needs require careful color consideration.

Are you looking blue? You might appear under-the-weather if your bathroom is painted or tiled in a bold blue. Perhaps, you weren’t feeling blue before entering your bathroom, but feel down when exiting. This could be due to your bathroom decorated in the wrong shade of blue.

Green is another color to use with caution in a bathroom. Even though it’s associated with calming nature, it may cause skin to look greenish. No one wants to look like the Wicked Witch of the West!

Even bright white may be a poor choice for a bathroom. Bright white can be too shocking to the system in the morning and too energizing to calm oneself down before bed. Additionally, bright white shows dirt and requires extra cleaning.

Though black faucets and shower tiles are popular, they are not recommended unless you constantly wipe down your surfaces, especially in Israel. Israel has hard water and the calcium in the water causes unbecoming white splotches.

For health reasons, you certainly do not want a black toilet. It’s important to see what’s doing inside one’s body by seeing what comes out…

The general rule of thumb is to avoid overly bold colors in the bathroom, including reds and yellows.

The best bathroom colors are light and neutral. Soft whites, light beiges, greys, or light blues are good bathroom color choices. Pinks also work well.

Should you find yourself loving one of the “no no” colors, there are still many ways you can incorporate your favorites while maintaining the positive effects of proper bathroom decor. Add colorful towels, a beautiful shower curtain, vibrant floor tiles or rugs, and art.

Here’s another piece of advice if you like bold and beautiful. Go a bit crazy with your powder room. This tiny space is great for showcasing your creative, colorful, and fun side. Paint the ceiling. Wallpaper the walls. Or, do just the opposite! Powder rooms were made for playful decoration that pushes color limits.

Ultimately, the goal is to love every place in your home, including the bathroom.
